With the weather starting to finally clear up, it’s time to get your home ready for spring and summer so you can relax and enjoy these seasons to the max!  To help get your home sparkling and ready to show off during the sunny days, here are a few essential tasks to make sure to include.

Declutter

After being stuck inside your home for months on end, it’s time to give your home a good spring cleaning. Start by decluttering anything you no longer need or use. This is one of the best ways to kick off your spring cleaning list since it gets excess clutter out of the way and opens up much more space throughout your home. Once you’re finished clearing out any old items that just collect dust or harbour negative memories, your home will look more welcoming, and you’ll feel like a million bucks!

Redecorate

Don’t forget to put away those big blankets and furry pillows so you can get ready to redecorate for the spring and summer seasons. Bring out the bright, bold colours, funky pillowcases, decorative table cloths, and colourful planters to add some cheery splashes of colour throughout your home. Nothing welcomes those sunny warmer months like having fresh, colourful décor inside and outside to enjoy.

Take Care of Any Necessary Maintenance Tasks

Winter weather can do a real number on the home exterior. So be sure to do the following home maintenance tasks to get you home looking its best:
  • Replace any broken shingles on the roof
  • Clean out your gutters and downspouts
  • Secure any loose roof flashings that protect your chimney, vents and skylights
  • Check your roof for any holes and remove debris
  • Inspect your attic for any signs of water damage, worn insulation or nesting pests
  • Caulk or weather-strip any windows that need a new application
  • Repair cracked asphalt, damaged interlock or broken stairs

Get Your Patio Ready

Whether you have a balcony, deck or patio, you don’t have to wait till summer to set it up and have it ready for entertaining. As soon as the last frost melts, you can start to move your patio furniture, umbrella and BBQ back outside. Just don’t forget to give everything a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint.

Ready The Yard

Now’s also a good time to inspect your yard and garden to see if there’s any damage. You can also remove the burlap from your shrubs, prune away any broken branches, cut back your perennials, and remove any leftover annual plants. April is a great time to get outside and start getting your yard and garden ready for spring sodding, seeding, and planting.     If the birds are singing and the ground is thawed, it’s a sign that it’s time to get into gear and get your home ready for spring and summer.  And if the spring has you house hunting instead, contact us at The Mortgage Advisors.  We’ll help you navigate with confidence to find the right deal for you.
