When you sell your home, you will typically want to set an ideal closing date - one that allows you to move from your old home into your new home on the same day. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always happen this way and you may have a few days or even weeks before you can move into your new place. And if everything is arranged with the new buyer of your home, you may end up being displaced for a little while. But don’t fret, there are some things you can do to make the process go smoothly and avoid being stranded. Here we give you some ideas on how you can survive until closing day.

Storage

A storage locker can be the perfect saviour in times like this. You can arrange to have your belongings stored at a secured facility until you move into your new home, as it will only be for a short time and shouldn’t cost you a lot of money. It will however, help save you a lot of stress.

Stay with Family or Friends

There’s no better time to visit family and friends than between your move. Family and friends are usually the first people to help you out in a sticky situation. You may even be able to move some of your belongings into a basement of their home until the big day.

Take a Vacation

A vacation can be the perfect way to relax during the moving process and fill some time until closing day.  With so many vacation options to choose from, you could take a trip overseas, out of province, or even have some fun up at the cottage.  It’s really the ideal time to properly celebrate your new home, before the hectic moving process really kicks into gear.

Stay at a Hotel

You may need to stick around your hometown to work or deal with some closing items. Booking a local hotel for a little while can be a great way to stay close and to have somewhere to lay your head at night. And it should be easy enough to find hotel options with a full kitchen and all the amenities you need to make you feel right at home. Moving from one home to another can come with lots of surprises and challenges. So always remember to have a backup plan just in case to prepare for the unexpected events that can arise before, during, and after your closing day.
